Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026. There is no trash pickup in Davie that day, Broward County students have the whole week off, and the closest Thanksgiving morning run is on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. The town has not yet posted its 2026 office and park closures; last year’s are below as a guide, and we will update this page when the new notice is out.

What this means for you

  • Trash: no service Thursday, Nov. 26. Thursday homes (the West zone, west of Flamingo Road) are picked up on their next regular day, Monday, Nov. 30.

Trash and recycling

The town’s 2026 Solid Waste Service Guide says there is no solid waste service on Thanksgiving Day, and homes scheduled for that day are collected on their next regularly scheduled day. Only the West zone, which is picked up Mondays and Thursdays, has a Thursday route, so its next pickup is Monday, Nov. 30. Central (Tuesday and Friday) and East (Wednesday and Saturday) homes keep their usual days.

In 2025 the town also moved bulk pickup for Zone 22, the East-map zone collected on the fourth Thursday of the month, to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. On the Friday after Thanksgiving in 2025, the town opened its parks from 9 a.m. to sunset, ran the fitness center from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the pool from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., and kept the Multipurpose Center closed. Programmed sports did not take place on either day.

The Fort Lauderdale race calls itself a festive 5K for runners, walkers and “wobblers” of all ages, with more than 3,000 taking part each year. Its entry price goes up after Oct. 26.

Giving back

Each fall the town has run a Thanksgiving food drive with Harvest Drive, the nonprofit that delivers groceries to Broward County Public Schools families in need. In 2025 the town collected boxed and canned Thanksgiving staples from Oct. 20 to Nov. 17 at Town Hall, the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, the fitness and aquatic center, and the police and fire lobbies, according to its 2025 announcement. The weekend before

The town’s free Holiday Craft Show and Green Fair is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21-22, at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, with local makers’ crafts and plants, live entertainment and raffles, according to the town’s event page.
