Davie is horse country, and dogs share its parks and trails. The town has one fenced dog park, at Peaceful Ridge Park on Flamingo Road, a leash law that covers every public place outside it, and a permit system that lets restaurants open their patios to dogs. Several of the town’s most popular events and Flamingo Gardens do not allow pets at all.

The short version

  • Leash: required everywhere off your own property, except inside a dog park (town code, section 4-65).
  • Dog park: Peaceful Ridge Park, 3000 S. Flamingo Road, 9 a.m. to sunset.
  • No dogs: Flamingo Gardens, the town’s Sounds of the Town concerts and Movies in the Park.

The leash law

Section 4-65 of the town code says all dogs “shall be kept secured by a leash, a chain, or within the real property limits of their owners.” The town can grant a waiver for a set time and place for things like obedience, herding or retrieving training. Dogs may be off leash only in designated dog parks, or inside the Davie Arena at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds during a permitted dog event.

Around the town’s designated bird rookeries, the code’s bird sanctuary section also requires dogs to be leashed and under the owner’s control at all times.

The town held its first Paws with Claus holiday event at the dog park in December 2025, with free dog photos with Santa (announcement).

Patios

Davie lets restaurants apply for a permit to open a designated outdoor seating area to customers’ dogs. In a permitted area, the town code says patrons must keep dogs leashed and under reasonable control, staff must not handle dogs while serving food, hand sanitizer must be on the tables, and a dog that barks repeatedly or behaves aggressively can be asked to leave (town code, section 12-34). Dogs may not sit on chairs or tables or pass through the indoor dining room. A permitted patio must post a sign saying the area is open to patrons’ dogs; if there is no sign, ask before you bring yours.

Where dogs are not allowed

  • Flamingo Gardens prohibits pets to protect its sanctuary animals. Trained service dogs and miniature horses are allowed, though they can be kept out of open-air exhibits such as the aviary; emotional support animals are not admitted (Flamingo Gardens).
  • Town events at Bamford Sports Complex: pets are not permitted at the Sounds of the Town concerts or Movies in the Park, and pets and coolers were not allowed at the 2026 Orange Blossom Festival (concerts, movies).
  • Bailey Hall at Broward College: no pets (venue policies).

Walks and trails

Davie’s multi-use trails are shared with cyclists and riders on horseback, and the leash law applies on them like anywhere else. Good starting points are the Orange Drive Linear Park trail along the South New River Canal, and the shaded trail around Wolf Lake Park, 5400 SW 76th Ave. Our walking and biking trails page has the routes.

Pet safety in Davie

  • Coyotes: town park rangers reported coyote sightings in January 2026. The town advises keeping pets in enclosed areas, walking dogs on a short leash and never feeding coyotes. Problems: FWC Wildlife Alert, 888-404-3922 (notice).
  • Microchips: Davie police and a local vet have run free microchipping days for Davie residents’ pets at Robbins Lodge Park; the October 2025 event required registration (announcement).
  • Fireworks nights: keep dogs indoors on New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July; see New Year’s Eve in Davie.
