Fox Trail and Hawkes Bluff elementaries rank 202nd and 203rd of 4,751 Florida schools in the 2027 U.S. News list, and both are new state Schools of Excellence.
Two Davie elementary schools rank in the top 5% of Florida’s 4,751 elementary schools in the U.S. News & World Report 2027 rankings. Fox Trail Elementary is 202nd and Hawkes Bluff Elementary is 203rd.
Broward County Public Schools published the list in an Oct. 26 news release. It named 28 district-run schools in the state’s top 5%: 23 elementary and five middle schools.
Davie schools in the top 5%
| School | Address | Florida rank | Share of schools |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fox Trail Elementary | 1250 S. Nob Hill Road | 202 of 4,751 | top 4.25% |
| Hawkes Bluff Elementary | 5900 SW 160th Ave. | 203 of 4,751 | top 4.27% |
Ranks and percentages are from the district’s release. The addresses are from the district’s school directory.
U.S. News bases the ranking on state math and reading tests, the district said. Half the formula is test scores and half takes account of students’ socioeconomic background.
Both schools earned an A in Florida’s 2026 school grades. Fox Trail scored 71% of possible points and Hawkes Bluff 74%, according to the state’s 2026 school grades file.
Also named Schools of Excellence
Both schools are also on a second list. The Florida State Board of Education named 50 Broward schools Schools of Excellence for the 2025-26 school year, the district said in an Oct. 22 news release.
A school qualifies when it ranks at or above the 80th percentile of its grade-level group in at least two of the previous three years, under the state’s school grading system. The district said the designation brings:
- more control over administrative, instructional and operational requirements
- access to additional funding opportunities
“We are proud to celebrate the schools earning this distinction,” Superintendent Howard Hepburn said in the release.
Schools next door that serve part of Davie
Some Davie addresses are zoned for schools outside town. Two of them made both lists:

- Pioneer Middle, 5350 SW 90th Ave. in Cooper City, about two miles south, ranks 130th of 3,514 Florida middle schools (top 3.70%). It serves most of the South University Drive area.
Cooper City High, 9401 Stirling Road, also zoned for parts of Davie, is a School of Excellence. U.S. News did not rank high schools in this release.
The zones come from the district’s attendance boundaries, as set out on our West Davie and South University Drive pages.
