Broward's 2027-28 School Choice window runs Nov. 9 to Jan. 15. Davie's 4 Nova schools and McFatter Tech take students only by application.
Broward County Public Schools opens its School Choice applications for the 2027-28 school year at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9. The window closes Friday, Jan. 15, 2027.
The district announced the dates Friday. Families use the window to apply for magnet programs, the Nova schools and reassignments to a school other than their zoned one.
The window matters in Davie because four of the district’s choice schools sit on one campus off College Avenue, and none of them has an attendance zone.
The Davie schools you can only get into by applying
The district’s School Choice FAQ lists the four Nova schools as their own application category. McFatter Technical High is a magnet school that also takes students only through School Choice.
| School | Address | Grades | Students (Aug. 21) | 2026 grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nova Blanche Forman Elementary | 3521 SW Davie Road | K-5 | 649 | B |
| Nova Eisenhower Elementary | 6501 SW 39th St. | K-5 | 691 | A |
| Nova Middle | 3602 College Ave. | 6-8 | 1,362 | A |
| Nova High | 3600 College Ave. | 9-12 | 2,543 | A |
| McFatter Technical High | 6500 Nova Drive | 9-12 | 610 | A |
Enrollment is from the district’s Tenth Day Enrollment Count. Grades are from the Florida Department of Education’s 2026 school grades file.
The FAQ also warns that “Nova schools may have limited application windows.” Check the district’s Important Dates page for the Nova dates before you count on the full window.
How the selection works
Applying early does not help. The FAQ says it does not matter when in the window a family applies, as long as the application and documents are in by the deadline.
- One application per category. A family can file one reassignment, one magnet and one Nova application for each child.
- Random selection. When a school has more applicants than seats, a computer draws the awards at random.
- Sibling priority. A brother or sister already at the school gives priority under School Board Policy 6400. It does not guarantee a seat.
- Wait pool. Students not drawn go into a pool with no ranked order. They are reconsidered at each later selection date.
- Register or lose it. A family offered a seat must register at the school by the deadline in the award letter, or the seat is forfeited.
Buses and documents
The district does not provide transportation for a reassignment. Magnet students get a bus only if they live more than 2 miles from the school and inside the program’s magnet transportation zone, the FAQ says.
Magnet programs with academic criteria ask for the latest report card and state test scores. Documents that are not uploaded by the deadline “may delay processing or exclude applicant from selection process,” according to the FAQ.
What it means for you
- Get the account ready now. Applications go through the Focus Parent Portal, and every child needs a district student number. The district’s School Choice Ready page walks through the steps.
- New to Broward schools? Take a government-issued photo ID and your child’s birth certificate to any district school to get a student number before the deadline.
- Moving up a level? A student on a reassignment does not roll from elementary to middle or middle to high automatically. They must apply again.
- Questions: the School Choice office is at 754-321-2480 and schoolchoice@browardschools.com.
