Safety

From the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Halloween food safety tips:

  • Feed children a light meal before they go out, and ask them to wait until they get home to eat any treats.
  • Eat only commercially wrapped treats. Check wrappers for pinholes, tears or discoloration, and throw away anything that looks wrong.
  • If your child has a food allergy, read the labels and skip home-baked treats.

A few more points for a Saturday night Halloween:

  • Carry a flashlight, and add reflective tape to dark costumes.
  • Use sidewalks where there are any; where there are none, walk facing traffic.
  • Florida’s sexual offender and predator registry is searchable by address on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement site.
  • Emergencies: 911.
